Description
An entirely off-trail hike above and below the basalt columns in the Dewdrop Range
- meet at Brock Dog Park to carpool at 10:00
- park on the Frederick Road and start the trek up to the ridge overlooking the lake
- scramble down to the bottom of the upper line of basalt columns on the east end and then follow the base of the cliffs to the west
- traverse under another set of columns along ridges to the top of the lowest line of columns at the west end
- loop back through the hills to the top of the ridge and viewpoints before descending to the vehicles
- anyone who registers needs to be okay with off-trail hiking on rough terrain
- good boots and poles recommended
- very scenic and geologically interesting
- agates and fossils may be found along the route
- lunch along the route
- “good clean fun” as long as you have a sense of humour

Outing Notes:
- the route will have cactus so it may not be appropriate for some dogs
- ticks will be out
- with the rough footing and steep terrain, strong ankles and good boots are needed
