Description
A hike from the Red Plateau Road to the rim and then along the rim and down to Castle Butte (weather dependent)
- access is via the Red Plateau Forest Service Road – some of the road is narrow and sometimes a bit rough
- meet at 8:30 (an early start to avoid the heat) to convoy at The Pimple (location link) parking area (right where the FSR branches off from the Tranquille – Criss Creek Road)
- although KHC is not organizing carpooling, individuals can make their own arrangements – I will send an email to all registrants to enable this.
- hike from the trailhead to Castle Butte (3.6 km) – a complex route
- the final section is a steep scramble on rock
- lunch on top of Castle Butte
- a scenic hike
- return by the same route – be careful to stay with the group since the turns are not obvious!
