Description
A replacement destination for Estekwalan because of wet conditions. A hike along the seldom-hiked Birch Bluffs Trail in Wells Gray.
- meet at the Wells Gray Info Center parking area (turn onto the Wells Gray Road and make a right turn right away) at 10:00 (arrive early so we can leave at 10:00)
- since KHC is not organizing carpooling, participants can still choose to make their own arrangements
- drive up to the Moul Falls parking lot (20 km on paved roads)
- hike the Moul Falls trail, but cross Grouse Creek on go over a bridge and up to the Birch Bluffs Rim
- hike along the Birch Bluffs Rim with a stop for lunch along the way (scenic)
- Coal Creek Falls is at the far end of the trail – 7 km one way (planned)
- Options for the way back – McDiarmid Falls (impressive, but a downhill hike and back up again) and Moul Falls (downhill and back, but shorter)
- article – Birch Bluffs Rim Trail
- a longer day of hiking – mosquitoes, mud, and deadfall likely
- wear good hiking shoes and make adequate preparations for a long day in the backcountry
- Estekwalan registrants added, but any registrant can cancel if the route choice or the conditions are not to their tastes
- updates to be added before the event, so watch the listing
