Description

An out and back beginner cross-country ski (approx 9.4 km return) to the McGillivray Cabin – a great opportunity to head out with fellow club-members and see what nordic skiing feels like.  We will be sticking to the McGillivray Lake beginner trail to keep things easy and will go slowly, making our way out to The Cabin at McGillivray Lake where we will have our lunch and a warm-up.  I encourage folks to have fun with your lunch – maybe pack something gourmet, or extra special (See notes below about a “Grand Prize” for Best Lunch) – to treat yourself for trying Nordic Skiing!  After lunch, we will return along the same trail back to the village and stop to enjoy a hot drink before heading back to Kamloops.

**The Fine Print:  I just want to point out that I am not an expert skier, nor am I an instructor.  This outing is for fellow wing-nuts who want to get out for some fun and make it to the McGillivray Cabin.  Alive.  In one piece.  And have a cool lunch.  (LOL)   (As a matter of fact, there will be a nifty prize for whoever brings the Coolest Lunch!  Yee-ha!  We don’t spoil ourselves enough!)   I will support all who participate (with skiing) in any way I can.  I encourage complete newbies to watch some Youtube videos on “Beginner Cross Country Skiing” before you hit the trail.  As Red Green said, “We’re all in this together”!

Meet at the Paul Lake Meet-Up Spot at 8:30am, car-pool to Sun Peaks Nordic Centre. We will stop and pick up any rentals if needed, and then head for the trail.  Please confer with your driver ahead of time, as to car-pool contribution expectations.

Nordic day passes are available at the Sun Peaks Nordic Centre and cost $20.00 (Adult), $16.00 for Seniors. Remember – Kamloops Hiking Club Members receive a 10% discount.  Ask for it, and give them your name – they have a Club Membership Listing.

Cross Country Skis, Boots, and Pole Package Rentals are also available at the Centre, and cost $30.00 per day.

Suggested lunch ideas:  Chateaubriand (lol – kidding!!), Smoked Salmon Potato Cakes, Creamy Mushroom and Beef Risotto, Cream of Leek and Potato Soup, Sushi, Kraft Dinner, PB&J, French Toast, etc, etc….Get Creative, Get Nutty, and Have Fun With It!!
