Hike Leader Program & Recognition
- The Fall Potluck, Social & Hike Leader Recognition was held at the Barnhartvale Hall on Saturday, November 25th. The food was delicious, music was amazing and time with friends invaluable. A special thank you to the following:
- Katherine – booking the hall & organizing the entertainment & door prizes.
- Frank Stofanik – providing our uplifting music.
- Sherie Guild (men’s jackets), Camilla Dahl (coffee mug, chocolates & coffee), Erika Herndier (Fire starting kits from Firewurks), True Outdoors (Banff Film Festival Tickets) who all donated door prizes.
- All the attendees that came out and supported the event & Katherine, Camilla & Mary who helped with the event setup.
- Kudos to Matt & Bunny for organizing & posting their first event with the club. Matt took his group to the Red Plateau & Dewdrop & Bunny took her group on an Exploratory Isobel Lake Area hike.
- The Hike Leader appreciation draw winner gift certificates were purchased & distributed to the following hike leaders: Chris, Shelley, Katherine, Lisa, Erika, John, Monika, Ian & Sheila. Thank you to Erika & Kevin who helped distribute the gift certificates.
- Hike Leaders planned and organized the following events in November: Kenna Cartwright (Erika & Kevin x 4; Maureen & Bunny x 1), Harper Mtn Climb (Sheila), Six Mile Ramble (Ian & Liz) , Mara Loop (Maureen & Bunny), Stake Lake (Monika & Roy x 3), Barnes Lake (Monika & Bunny), Sugarloaf South (Chris & Carla), The Guardsmen (Margo & Doug), Red Plateau & Dewdrop (Matt), Paul Lake to Gilbraltar Rock (Katherine & Sam), Battle Bluff (John & Carole), Isobel Lake Area (Bunny), Dewdrop Range – Bluebird (Ian & Liz), Red Plateau (John & Carole), and Lac Du Bois (Bunny & Maureen).

Events Program
- In the last 11 months we averaged 20 events per month and have posted 228 events as of November 28th.
- We had 23 events posted in November that were well attended.
- We have seen a bit of snow on the ground at Harper, Stake Lake, Isobel Lake, Paul Lake, Red Plateau & Paul Lake.
- Local trails are great for hiking at the moment and we’ll use our cleats and snowshoes when the white stuff comes next month.
- The Pineview trail network closed at the end of day Sunday November 26th.  All parking lot gates are now closed and trails are closed for all recreational uses (hiking, running, snowshoeing & mountain biking) as per the trail use agreement with the landowners..
- Each hike leader has their own style and the way they plan, post & execute events. For instance, some leaders like big groups while others like small groups; some leaders like to know exactly where they are going while others like to explore as they go; some leaders use/rely on GPS or tracking applications while others do not and some leaders will take & post pictures while others do not.
- We are always looking for eager volunteers to step up and become leaders and co-leaders:
- Leaders plan, organize & post events and co-leaders help the leader execute a fun & safe event.
- If you are interested please check out the Hike Leader Program & Resources information and/or contact Monika Taki the KHC Hike Leader Liaison for more information.
