Fall is here and it’s a wonderful time for gratitude and change. Each season holds something special. Fall is the season when nature reminds us to let go and rejuvenate with a wonder of colours: orange, red, yellow, deep green, and earthy brown. The crisp air smells of damp earth from fall rain and mixes with the remnants of the dry summer heat. It is fresh and inviting. It is a time I feel grateful to walk the trails in the woods, fields, or mountains. To listen to the trickling water weave its way through the rocks in a stream that only a few months earlier gushed and roared. The woods are quieter and preparing to rest. To hike in the fall is uplifting.
Thank you hike leaders for the fabulous fall hikes and events that you are posting. A reminder to members that events can fill up fast so it is good to check the website often for new events and for cancellations. Also, KHC is happy to train members who are interested in becoming hike leaders.

Navigation and Companion Rescue by Brad Harrison
Last March some KHC hike leaders took part in a mini-companion rescue course instructed by KHC member Brad Harrison. In March of 2022, he will be offering KHC members the mini-companion rescue course covering all facets of companion rescue, including the use of shovels, transceivers, and probes as well as rescue strategies as well as a general review of avalanche particulars and companion rescue protocols, in addition to a mini-wilderness navigation course.
