Trail Conditions – Spring
- The lowest areas will have mostly good hiking, except right after a rain.
- The hills may be okay, but a trail that is sloped and/or has sand content will dry out faster and have less mud. Anywhere where snow is melting or recently melted will be muddy. Any trail that is flat and below a snow slope will be muddy from the runoff.
- Upper hills that retain snow will be a bit slushy and wet.
- The High Country will retain its snow cover for a bit and snowshoeing will continue, but if it gets warm, the snow will turn slushy and then freeze overnight.
- Carry traction devices to be safe and have a change of shoes, especially if carpooling.
- As soon as the weather warms up, we will find ticks out on the trails.

Kenna was icy last week. Flumes is icy. Sabiston, Cooney Bay, Rabbit Island were dry. Snowshoeing is still good at Stake Lake, Gus Johnson, Bush Lake & Dogwood Marshes.
Stake Lake xc ski trails were pretty icy this morning but we still had a good classic ski and perhaps the last one for the season.
Kenna trails off Bunker road were a bit muddy yesterday morning when we did the hike. They were totally dry at 3 pm the day before so plan accordingly.
Tranquille Ridge Ramble on Mar 22 was dry and a great hike! There was a ton of snow at Lodgepole Lake on Mar 24 for snowshoeing.
We’ve recently had fantastic dry hikes at Tranquille Ridge (Mar 29/30, Dallas/Barnhartvale Nature park (Apr 1), , Lower SW Mara (Apr 2), Mara Extended & Guardsmen Loop (Apr 4)and Mara Ridge & Canyon (Apr 5). Stake Lake still has snow if you want to go snowshoeing or cleat hiking! Kenna is muddy & snowy on the backside.
Hikes to to the Dewdrop Ridge & Battle Bluff area, Deep Lake and Kenna (Sunset, Lava Flow & Mesa) were mostly dry as well.
Thanks for the trail updates Monika!
The Moonscape trial in Sun Rivers is closed.
