KHC Newsletter – December, 2019
KHChronicles –
-
- Our thanks to the hike leaders who led events in December – Paulette Gendron, Doug Smith, John and Carole Moslin, Gerry Hoye, Sam Chow and Katherine Roberts, Lisa Boutry, Ernie Carson, Dianne Smith and Lori Rilkoff. Hike leaders were also supported by co-leaders for most events.
- Welcome to new hike leaders Lori Rilkoff and Dianne Smith.  Welcome to new member Brenna Slawich.
- The winner of the December draw for hike leaders was Carole Moslin.
- The largest avalanche detection system in North America is now working in Rogers Pass (link to more information).
- Here is FMCBC’s December Newsletter.
- We have added a new location that can be used for a planned hike or snowshoe that is not decided or it may not already be in the list of established locations. It is called Check the Event Listing indicating that more information is provided within the body of the event listing.
- We have created a new event category of Future Camps or Backpacks for the upcoming season.  When they are still in tentative, they will only appear on the Backpacks and Camps Page on the website.  Once the events are confirmed by the leaders, they will appear on the main event listings on the front page. Similarly we now have a Future Draft Events category and those events will only appear in the lower widget in list form until the event is confirmed.  At that point the category will be changed and it will appear in the main front page widget. Short term Draft Events will still appear in the main event listing if the date, time, etc. is confirmed, but registration is not yet enabled.
- All of the website’s images have been optimized to make the website work faster.
- KHC’s policy on Active and Inactive Leaders is on the website – Hike Leaders (link).
- KHC would like to start a dialogue with members.  What can we do to make events more rewarding for hike leaders? Do we need to rethink how we do things?  Your feedback is appreciated.
- Renewals for 2020 will start on February 1st.  A button will be visible to logged-in members at that time which will take you to the renewals page.  The process of renewing the membership requires completing a new online waiver (inc. confirming it in an auto-email) and paying yearly dues of $30 (via etransfer).  No additional registration is required.
- Registration for new members will start February 15th. The limit/goal for 2020 is about 300 members.
- Happy New Year!
KHC has an extensive library of trail information for local hiking, only available online when logged-in, a benefit to members. New updates (trail info, maps, GPS tracks, events, etc.) are now available for the following trails (click a link for each page). KHC’s website has more area information than any published book.
- Blind Bay – Balmoral Bluffs
- Dewdrop Trail (to Red Plateau)
- Sugarloaf Hill
- Deadman Falls
- Battle Mountain
- Cornwall Hills Provincial Park
- Cirque of Tarns
- Cape Scott
- Albas Falls
Developing these maps, tracks, links and specific information is time-consuming so a few will be updated each month, mostly over the winter season.
No Events at this time.
