Description
Come and join leaders Ed and Lois Hunter and experience the magic of winter as you step softly between the snow-laden tall trees of the Sovereign Lake Trails which are nestled in the high-altitude terrain of Silver Star Provincial Park located on the outskirts of Vernon, B.C. Â
“The Sovereign Lake Nordic and Snowshoe Centre is located right next to Silver Star Mountain Resort, 22 km (13.6 mi) northeast of Vernon, and is known as one of the region’s best loved cross-country ski and snowshoe destinations. With an elevation of 1,664 m (5,500 ft), Sovereign Lake receives fantastic snowfalls and provides great early season skiing.”Â
- This is a moderate trail covering a distance of approximately 10 km., but if we encounter a significant dump of fresh snow and are therefore having to break trail, then the rating for this snowshoe will be “Harder”.
- Gaiters are highly recommended
- we anticipate that we’ll be on the trail for approximately 4+hrs.
- we will stop for a 30 minute lunch at the Black Prince Cabin.
- allow approximately 1 hr. 45 minutes to drive from the meeting area in Kamloops (TBA) to the parking area at Sovereign Lake.
- snowshoe pass is $10.00 for adults and $9.00 for Seniors.
- if you are carpooling, then it is up to the driver to set the rate for a contribution towards gas costs etc. Â If you are carpooling, it is recommended you have a back-up plan in case your driver cancels at the last moment.
- dress appropriately for the conditions (breathable layers), bring something to quench your thirst, a hearty lunch, and snacks (we’ll be sure to take a brief stop -10 to 15 mins. – on our way to the cabin to have a light snack).
- don’t forget your camera!
- except for unforeseen emergencies, it is expected that all participants stay for the duration of the event
- this is a “group event” and as such – we encourage all participants to stay together as much as is *reasonably* possible. In other words, we endeavor to keep the distance between the first and last person to a minimum:-)
- We expect all participants to be adequately prepared, using the Ten Essentials as your guide.
- this snowshoe is not recommended for Novices due to the distance involved and the possibility that we will be breaking trail in deep snow
- Leaders T(Ed) and Lois will meet all participants at the Sovereign Lake/Nordic Centre parking lot at approximately 10:00 a.m.
- Kamloops residents to meet at the Valleyview Arena (north end) at 8:00 a.m. to coordinate travels under the careful direction of Sam Chow 🙂
