Description

Join leaders Lois and T(ED) Hunter on what has become a KHC favourite snowshoe destination located at Larch Hills near Salmon Arm.

Why is Larch Hills so popular with winter-sport aficionados?  Well, it probably has something to do with the fact that this area lies in the shadow of the Monashees and is therefore generally blessed with an abundance of powdery snow.  And, because, the Larch Hills cross-country ski/snowshoe area, 20 km from Salmon Arm, is home to some of B.C.’s finest cross-country ski trails totalling an impressive 150 km of trails, about 50 km of which are track set, in addition to a gorgeous network of snowshoe trails that meander through a beautiful mixed forest, across open meadows and, at times, bypassing babbling brooks.  Catch your reflection in the legendary emerald waters of ……the mysterious “Magical Pond”!

This is a fairly lengthy snowshoe with a total distance of 12 km. (return) to Cec’s cabin and back to the parking lot.  We will be snowshoeing along the Coffey’s Climb trail, the most challenging snowshoe trail located in Larch Hills.  The first 2-3 kms. (to the little South Hub cabin) are relatively easy, but the remaining distance up to Cec’s cabin -where we will have a short break for lunch – is a steady uphill climb.  All participants are therefore expected to meet the related physical demands of this outing and this event is therefore not suitable for novices.
