Description
- Come join us for this amazing Icefields Parkway backcountry backpack in Banff National Park.
- Approximately 50 m backpack
- You must be fully equipped and experienced in the backcountry.
- This is grizzly country, so we will have a larger group.
- This backpack is leader approved, so please contact Katherine at aussiecan7@shaw.ca before you will be added in
- 3 nights and 4 days on the trail.
- We will need bear bags and will have to hang our food with our own ropes. I will be using odor proof bags. We will help each other with this task.
- Be prepared for water crossings that may be thigh high for our day hikes. Water shoes and poles are highly recommended.
- Bear spray will be a must for each hiker as we are in grizzly country. Our group came across a grizzly on one of our adventures in the area.
- Come prepared with bear safe bug spray as some areas are known to be buggy.
- This is a backpack, so it is classified as challenging. The terrain will range from moderate to challenging.
- We will hike at a moderate pace. We will take breaks for photography and to dip our feet in a lake or lay in a meadow.
Elevations: Helen Lake 1833 m, Katherine Lake 2412 m, Dolomite Pass 2781 m, Cirque Peak 2993 m
Day 1 July 30th
Travel to Banff National Park and stay in a front country campground or a hostel. We have room for more in our 6 bed private room at Lake Louise. Option to explore Moraine and Lake Louise Lakes and enjoy dinner out.
Day 2 July 31st
10 km hike from the Helen Lake trailhead past Helen Lake, past Katherine Lake to Dolomite Creek. Set up tents for the night. There are no facilities here and we don’t have to book, although we need to register with Parks Canada so they know we are out there. .
Day 3 August 1st
13 km hike to North of Isabella Lake near the Ranger’s cabin. Primitive camp site for 2 nights. We will do a day hike once set up.
Day 4 August 2nd
Day hike tbd.
Day 5 August 3rd
13 km hike out with the option of dropping our packs and hiking up Cirque Peak for lunch. This is a very steep climb with a very rewarding view! Hike the rest of the way out and drive home. This will be an approximately 13 km day.
