I have travelled through this area many times on the way to the Kootenays but have never taken the time to explore the Christina Lake area. Join me and co leader Shelley Nohels for a weekend at Christina Lake where we will explore some local trails.
This will be a smaller group that requires leader registration so contact me by email if interested. I would like to give new members an opportunity to join the event first but will open to all members if spots aren’t full. Camp reservations are needed at Gladstone Provincial Park and at the moment sites are available but we all know how fast those can fill up! It will be up to members who join to reserve their camp spot. Once people sign up we can see if anyone wants to carpool and share camping reservations.
CAMPING FEE
$27 per party / night (Texas Creek)
$12 charge for second vehicle / night (Texas Creek)
$13 per party or vessel /night (Gladstone Backcountry Marine Sites)
For full fee schedule and more information please visit BC PARKS Fees.
Friday June 9
The idea is to leave Kamloops early as it is a 5 hour drive to Christina Lake. The plan is to make a stop in Grand Forks maybe for something to eat, rest and enjoy this quaint town in Boundary Country before continuing on to nearby Christina Lake. We will set up camp and then explore a shorter local trail such as Cascade Falls and/or Columbia and Western Rail Trail ( 5-6 km) We will be back at camp for supper and enjoy the beach area in the evening.
Saturday June 10
Deer Point Trail. A scenic hike along the bluffs above Christina Lake. This will be a more moderate to harder hike (harder mainly because of the distance -12 km one way) with an early start. More details to follow ( I will be passing through the area in the next few weeks and will find out more information) We have a few options for this trail but I would love to take the trail close to the lookout down to Trapper Creek and the lake where we could enjoy a leisurely lunch.
Sunday June 11
5 hour drive home! But wait…depending on how everyone is feeling we can all decide at the campground if we want to stop on the way back to Kamloops and do another shorter hike. I have a few options in mind but we can discuss at a later date if everyone is interested.
