Description

This is a 4 night, 5 day event starting with our drive day to Glacier National Park on Wednesday 26th July.   Once Parks Canada puts out reservation dates everyone will be responsible to make their own reservation.  I will let you know as soon as I have more information.   We will be reserving in Loop Brook campground (Illecillewaet is first come first serve) so that we are assured of a spot. This is a basic campground with water, pit toilets and firepits and has large, well protected sites.  (Nights to reserve are 26, 27, 28, 29th July)

The hikes in Glacier National Park are all harder hikes.  The scenery is stunning, and we have all day to explore our trails.

The plan is to hike Perley Rock trail one day – this is the most difficult hike in the park.  It will take at least 6 hours along a good, well marked trail which is 10.8 km with an elevation gain of 1143 m.  It is a steep hike ending at a high viewpoint overlooking the Illecillewaet Icefield.  There are numerous stunning ice caves to explore at the top, this part is a rock hopping experience.

We will plan to hike the Asulkan Valley up to the Asulkan ACC hut but there are

Kvarious incredible viewpoints which could be a turning point if need be.  This is another full day hike of 13.8 km with elevation of 869m.  It starts off on a gradual 4km trail through the valley bottom before steepening up.  The trail takes you through waterfalls and mountain scenery.

There are various options for our third hike but am aiming to do Hermit trail.   This is the shortest hike in the park but very steep.   It climbs 819m over 3.2 km through stunning scenery up into alpine meadows where there is a very small campsite usually used by climbers.

We will have to be flexible on our plans as trails are closed frequently due to bear activity.  In this case we will pick another hike.

After our 4th night at Loop Brook we will drive back to Revelstoke to take the gondola up to the alpine to do a hike.  I haven’t done the hikes up there so this one will be an adventure!  The hikes vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours.  We may consider doing this one from our campsite on one of our days in the park although this will entail a 45 minute drive each way.   This is an optional hike and is en route home.  My plan is to drive to Revy ski hill and take the gondola up, then explore.

So far we have Margo Mercier, Doug Morris, Sharon Peters, Joyce Denault, Janice Kika, Mary and Frank Stofanik, Gerry Hoye and Toomas Ruberg joining on this adventure.   We may open up more spaces if we are all able to get campsites and we can accommodate one or two more.

This  trip is now full; please keep your eye open on the website for cancellations.

Reservations open on Monday March 13th at 0800.  Make sure you have made a new parks canada account (you can do this as of March 3rd) as their system has been updated.
